Music Spotlight:
Dancefloor Prophets: CD review of "Woe X III"

Honest, exciting and musically creative, the Dancefloor Prophets hit the mark with their latest CD release Woe X III. OK guys listen up because here is a music project worth listening to. The Dancefloor Prophets are an all-acoustic quartet based in San Diego and have been together for over 5 years. The band is made up of four members: Ricky Andrade, the lead singer and songwriter, Aaron Redfield as the drummer and percussionist, Darren Piles on bass, and Holly Nigh on violin.

Their sound is intentionally very different and creatively unique. All members are versed in many styles and have had previous secular careers in music. Lead singer Ricky has been in music for over 25 years and started out in the field of medicine because he had a deep desire to help others find healing, but discovered the power of music to relay a message of inner healing and peace. While listening to the song ³Whatıs going on² by Marvin Gaye the lyrics about the problems of this world touched his life profoundly. He knew that God had a calling upon his life to get people to look for the truth in God.

The Dancefloor Prophets not only minister in music but also share their testimonies. As the spirit of God leads them, they often preach and minister to the people during their concerts. They have a strong evangelistic thrust in what they do. Currently, Ricky is also an associate pastor at Horizon Chapel in San Diego. The music is very different from the traditional ideas of Christian music. ³We donıt fit in anywhere, so we can go everywhere² states the lead singer. Known for their high-spirited worship and wide range of musical styles, they have been able to play nearly any type of venue, Christian as well as some secular. They currently minister in churches, prisons, hospitals, colleges, coffee houses, concerts, street corners and more. Musically they blend folk, soul, jazz, rock and classical styles as well as mix contemporary rhythms with traditional music.

The album begins with a soft ballad letting you know that you can ³Restart Again² and continues to build the theatrical messages of music. They get clearer as the listeners discover the need for God. The song ³Fireproof² showcases the soulful jazz sound of the group while ³The Cross² is a simple confession and glorious classical worship selection to the Lord. This song really moved me to worship. The classical sounds of strings and the big sound wrapped in powerful lyrics was enough to have me say to you, this is an album that you must have for your collection. By the way, this group can ³jam.² The guitar licks on this album are awesome. ³Everyday² was also a notable mention on this album with the soulful vocals and heart-touching lyrics ³Well Iım holding on I got one true friend. You see Iım holding on cause You can love me till the end.² All the songs on this album, however unique in styles and genres, will minister to all who hear it. Finally, Woe X III, the title track, paints a picture of the events that will come as described in the book of Revelation. I asked Ricky why the different sound and he replied, ³The personality of the band is to undo what people think of music. We are not held by market boundaries to the beats that you find in our music.²

This full musical journey has captured the true sound of heaven with this collective inspiration of song and lyrics. The bandıs musical ideas are conceived and planned with this brand new project. Still, there is no denying that the bandıs latest release Woe X III is the best work it has done. This album is able to minister the gospel to those who donıt understand Christian music. ³Our songs tell stories. Every song has word pictures, metaphors in a similar way as Jesus used to share parables.² A very full sound with passionate worship, this album has beautifully arranged music and melodies. The soulful lead singer will bless you with his melodic voice as he and the band present this album out of love for the souls and to see them saved. I encourage you to get this album and SHARE IT WITH THE WORLD!

Look for their music featured on the upcoming film soundtrack of ³Dope² with other artists such as Switchfoot, POD, and Simon Burke. ³Woe X III² can be purchased online and for booking you can go to www.dancefloorprohets.com.
