MANY CITIES NO LONGER ALLOW PRAYER BEFORE COUNCIL MEETINGS
"Freedom is a new concept," Santee mayor Randy Voepel told Good News Etc. "It's only been around 200 years." For 200 years we have been trying to understand it and to apply it to our ever-changing realities. When Thomas Jefferson wrote his Act for ...

WIVES OF SERVICEMEN FACE HURDLES WITH DEPLOYMENT
Jack Wray got on the bus on a chilly winter morning, leaving Ann with her little four-year-old boy in her arms, full of mixed emotions. There had been plenty of notice, so Ann had time to prepare. Still, there was that obvious fear of the unknown, seeping down to the smallest details and stretching to what seemed like eternity. How would ...

OCEANSIDE 'WAFFLES' ON 'IN GOD WE TRUST' PLAQUE
It seems that, in most matters, the majority has the final say. In most matters, except in religious issues, where the lone non-Christian, whatever his religion, can nowadays easily throw fatal monkey wrenches left and right. If he is offended by Christianity, the Christian majority must stop. It's bad enough when that happens, but it's far worse ...

 Pastor's Heart
Is there a favorite book of the Bible that you like to teach from?

Pastor Jack Little,
Grace Chapel of the Coast, Oceanside:

I love to teach out of the book of Joshua. Joshua never gave up his vision or passion to follow God's purpose and take the land God had promised. He remained faithful through much opposition and in the end saw his vision come to pass. During Joshua's leadership, the people of God rose up and did together what God intended. It is one of the few times in all of God's history that all of God's people rose to accomplish what He wanted. They had unity with a purpose. They had a battle to fight and their God to serve and they did it together as one! I still hold to my passion to see this again with the people of God rising up in unison accomplishing God's purposes on the earth!

Pastor John M. Casto,
Church on the Rock, San Diego:

I enjoy teaching from Matthew's account of the life of Jesus because it contains so many great topical lessons of life: Salt and Light, Love Your Enemies, Prayer, Wise and Foolish Builders, the parables, on and on throughout the entire gospel narrative! Jesus said, "You have heard it said ... but I say." I entitled these lessons "The Jesus Way." In my opinion, the most notable in the Book of Matthew is the "Jesus Way" of resolving offenses. If there is a lesson that needs to be taught over and over in the church it is the lesson of forgiveness. There are only two ways to resolve an offense - forgive your brother and go get forgiven. Lastly, there are those famous last words of Jesus "Go ye therefore." He was saying to us all... Get everybody saved. Get the "saved ones" discipled. And get the "discipled ones" going to get everybody saved.
