POSITION: Director of Community
Relations and Events
LOCATION: San Diego County
PHONE: 619-929-4770
LENGTH OF SERVICE: Since Nov. 1, 2003
WHAT
DOES THE ORGANIZATION DO? FCA utilizes the influence of coaches and athletes to share
the gospel of Jesus Christ on junior high, high school and college
campuses through Sports Camps and various Special Events. America is a sport-oriented society. What better way to reach young people
for Christ?
YOUR PRIMARY DUTIES: Informing &
educating the community of the FCA ministry and getting people involved
with FCA through their time and money.
This also includes planning and organizing all of our various
special events.
WHAT
AREA OF EXPERTISE DO YOU HAVE OR ARE YOU KNOWN FOR?
My
background is in sports marketing and advertising - about 17 years. I’ve been fortunate to work with
companies like Nike, Eddie Bauer, Pizza Hut, etc. I even worked closely with Lee Iacocca for a time.
WHAT
WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH? I’d like
to see a FCA Huddle (on-campus Bible study) on every junior high,
high school and college campus throughout San Diego County. Our
goal is 50 schools by the end of the 2004 school year which is about
25% of the total school campuses.
WHERE
DO YOU FEEL THE LORD IS LEADING THE ORGANIZATION?
Growth
in reaching more young people for Christ!
In addition to more Huddles, FCA is looking to add 2 more
staff people in San Diego shortly.
We also see our Summer Sports Camp, held in Santa Barbara
June 29 - July 3, growing from 550 students to 675.
WHAT
IS FRUSTRATING TO YOU? That more people are not
aware of and actively involved with FCA.
That’s why FCA created my position. There was a need and I believe God called me to help mobilize
people, churches and businesses to get involved with introducing
Christ to young people.
WHAT
DO YOU ENJOY MOST IN YOUR JOB? Sharing the gospel to young people through sports and athletics.
HOW
CAN PEOPLE PRAY FOR YOU OR YOUR ORGANIZATION? Pray that the Lord brings the right people and resources to
FCA so that we can continue to expand our ministry throughout San
Diego County.
DO
YOU HAVE A NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS? Yes! In particular,
we are looking for adults to serve on local committees to help us
achieve the goals God has laid out for the ministry.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY: Mrs. Simmons
is out there, somewhere, we just haven’t met yet...I’m
single.
WHAT IS YOUR HOME CHURCH? The Rock Church...what
a blessing!
IS
THERE A FAVORITE BOOK THAT HAS MADE AN IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE?
The
Purpose Driving Life
by Rick Warren .
WHAT
IS YOUR FAVORITE SCRIPTURE? “Don’t worry about anything. Instead pray about everything, tell God
your needs and don’t forget to thank him for his answers.”
Philippians 4:6 (Living
Bible)
IS
THERE A “NUGGET” YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE? An estimated 80% of all born-again Christians made a decision
for the Lord before the age of 19. If you really want to impact the life of someone while raising
up future leaders in the local community, why not share the gospel
with a young person?
