MOSBACH, Germany — The international mission agency Operation
Mobilization (OM) announced it will purchase a new ship this year to replace
the Logos II, which has been in OM’s service since 1989. OM ships travel
to ports all over the world carrying Christian literature and offering
presentations of the Gospel to visitors. According to OM’s ship office in
Mosbach, Germany, OM runs two ocean going vessels. The Logos II, her predecessor Logos, and the Doulos
(Servant) have berthed in ports of 135 nations in thirty years. The ships are
manned by a Christian crew and volunteers. On board are a book exhibition and shop, which open to the
public in the ports of call. Over the last 15 years about 47,000 Bibles and
nearly three million Christian books as well as four million copies of
educational material have been distributed. The new ship will be called “Logos Hope” and
will cost an estimated $20 million. The 90-year-old Doulos was purchased in
1977. Since then, more than 15
million visitors have been on board in over 400 ports of call.
