 Up Close and Personal

Introducing . . . T.J. "Ted" Grosser, Ed.D, D.D of Angelcare

PHONE:  619-795-6234

LENGTH OF SERVICE:  19 years

POSITION:  President

LOCATION: San Diego

WHAT DOES THE ORGANIZATION DO:  Our goal is to build bridges of hope and service between caring American Christians and the poor in the U.S. and in developing countries in the world. We run elementary schools in Cambodia, Guatemala, the Philippines, and Tanzania. We co-operate a school for mentally disabled youth in Poland. We offer our ³Angels on a Mission² program for Americans to go to developing countries for short-term ministry opportunties where they will live, work and care for the people of the area in what we describe as an incarnational ministry experience.

YOUR PRIMARY DUTIES:  Responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations and for promoting our work among local congregations and the general public.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH?  To become better known for our ability to work with members of all branches of the Christian family.  We are celebrating our 30th year. We will be making a major push to reach out to pastors and members of all denominations in Southern California. We invite them to participate in our ³Angels on a Mission² program or to let us help them organize their own short-term missions projects, with opportunities in Mississippi, Cambodia, and Guatemala this summer.

WHAT ARE YOU BEST KNOWN FOR?  Through our schools and clinics, we make long-term commitments as we work toward long-term solutions. Our short-term ministry opportunities are meshed into long-term objectives and goals.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING TO YOU?  Aside from the need for more money, it is the short attention span of most people. Part of this is because we are used to solving problems in a 30 minute TV program, big problems get two hours, and monster problems get a 6-hour special. It will take the victims of the 2004 tsunami and the 2005 hurricanes a generation to recover. Anglecare wants to remind people to bring the presence of Christ and His love to those in need of long-term healing while still helping the most current disaster. These big challenges are the cause of lots of heartache and frustration.

WHAT DO YOU  ENJOY MOST IN YOUR POSITION?  Helping a person discover how to use his or her talents in a manner that glorifies God and is a blessing to others.

HOW CAN PEOPLE PRAY FOR YOU OR YOUR ORGANIZATION?  They can pray for my stamina. Anglecare wants to expand its ³Angels on a Mission² program so that more people have an incarnational experience with the living Christ.

WHERE DO YOU FEEL THE LORD IS LEADING THE ORGANIZATION?  To increase our efforts to make American Christians aware of and to help solve the problems facing the poor of the world and to give them opportunities to become directly involved.

IN WHAT CAPACITY CAN VOLUNTEERS SERVE?  They can help in the El Cajon office, become part of our Speaker¹s Bureau and join our short-term mission experiences.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY:  We have five adult children; the young daughter, Elizabeth, (adopted in Guatemala) attends California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. Our oldest daughter, Julie Chadwick, and her husband started the Special Friends Foundation that operates two group homes for disabled adults in Poway. In November 2005 our first great-grandson was born. His parents are graduates of Biola and are teachers in Whittier.

WHERE IS YOUR HOME CHURCH AND YOUR INVOLVEMENT THERE:  We really have two home congregations. For 24 years, I have been on the staff of Hope Lutheran Church in Hollywood. I preach once a month, lead a weekly mid-week worship series during Lent and teach a Sunday Bible series several times a year. We are also active in Ascension Lutheran Church in Allied Gardens in San Diego. I preach and teach as requested. My wife, Janet, is deeply involved in  Healing Touch and prayer ministries. Together we are working  with our pastor, Richard Zuber, to grow the congregation into a vision of the worldwide mission of the church.

IS THERE A ³NUGGET² YOU¹D LIKE TO SHARE? When Jesus says, ³Whatever you do to the least of these (children, the poor, widows, strangers, etc.) you do to Me.² He is inviting us to get a very special blessing as we experience His presence in the ³least of these.²
