Taking pro-life to the road

Pregnancy Resource Center is taking its Image Clear Ultrasound on the road. Ultrasound manager Kim Regnier, left, and treasurer Jamie Hay of Pregnancy Resource Center stand in front of the new 36-foot RV that will serve as a mobile ultrasound clinic.

The RV has been newly remodeled inside and equipped with an ultrasound unit and examining room for women. Women can receive free limited pregnancy services in a private convenient manner. These confidential free services include limited ultrasounds performed by a registered medical ultrasound technician, self-administered urine pregnancy tests, pregnancy options consulting, and information on abortion, adoption and parenting with referrals as needed.¬Ý

A $100,000 grant was donated to Pregnancy Resource Center in Oceanside to purchase the RV, the start-up costs and running the program. The grant donation came from the Swett Family Foundation and from County Supervisor Bill Horn. Each contributed $50,000.

This mobile RV clinic with ultra-sound is the seventh in the United States. It has been successful in New York and Illinois in helping other centers with their abortion-minded clients. ’ÄúWe will now be able to offer ultrasound services at Birth Choice in San Marcos, Life Choices in Poway, Turning Point Resource Center in Mira Mesa, and other centers who do not have this type of service,’Äù Regnier said.¬Ý

The RV will have the 1-877-ICU-7772 phone number painted on the outside. Women can call for an appointment when the mobile clinic may be in their area. ’ÄúPeople can help by becoming ’ÄòA Friend of Life,’Äô Regnier added. ’ÄúThey can donate $10 a month by phone, online or by mail.’Äù¬Ý

Pregnancy Resource Center is also looking for volunteers in other capacities to help with this new program. For information, call (760) 945-HOPE(4673). The Pregnancy Resource Center is located at 4095-B Oceanside Blvd., Oceanside.
