SUMMER IS 'ICOMEN INN'S
Yes, summer is coming, as the old Anglo-Saxon song says, and it can't come too soon for us in the Northwest, who are deeply conscious of the change of seasons. (Ruth and I moved here last July and like it very much.) But being a Californian by birth, I am now thinking about sunny summer days I spent in the High Sierra: scaling Half ...

TRUTH AND THE PHILISTINES
In modern English, the word "Philistine" refers to an uncouth or uncultured person. The term is taken from the name of the people who were Israel's biggest rivals in the period between the Exodus and the reign of David. Until recently, many scholars doubted the existence of the Philistines. But, as with so much of the biblical text, the ...

AMERICA'S LOST YOUTH
The tragic case of seven-year-old Danielle Van Dam, whose corpse was recently uncovered after the child had been missing for close to a month, has brought home to parents once again the tenuous nature of keeping our children safe. That a child could be snatched from under her own roof, with her parents at home, is enough to put an ...
RED CROSS STILL DOESN'T GET IT, EXCEPT THAT DONATIONS DECLINE
The cross that serves as their logo is red. Their faces should be too, but they're not. The Red Cross apologized -sort of -for a recent debacle in which its Orange County chapter turned away a high school singing group from a volunteer recognition ...
OUR PART IN THE WAR ON EVIL
President Bush has characterized the current war as one between good and evil, and there is at least a kernel of truth in this. It is a war that most Americans and most Christians support. As a nation, we have indicated that we will make sacrifices. Opinion polls say that we will even sacrifice our children on the battlefield, if that is ...

 Letters To The Editor
Prison Readership

By Adrian (last name withheld), Lancaster

Thank you very much to you and your staff for doing a featured article about my music ministry in the January edition of the Good News, Etc. The article was wonderful. Thank you again for your kind heart and servant spirit in blessings so many different ministries in the San Diego area. May God continue to bless your ministry in this coming year. Praise the Lord! My name is Adrian, and I'm an inmate at a California prison. I used to live in Oceanside and I enjoyed your paper. I was wondering if one could order it via mail. If so, what is the rate and are there any special rates for inmates? (Our funds are not very deep.) I also want to thank you for something you did for me about a year ago. You found me a great pen-pal through Brother's Keeper Ministry. Thank you so much. May the Lord continue to bless your paper. Editor's Note: Adrian wanted to run a personal ad last year, looking for a pen-pal. However, we refer that type request to Brother's Keeper in Escondido. Regarding his new request, we will give him a complimentary subscription to the newspaper. We've also checked with several local jail chaplains and are increasing the number of papers we leave at those facilities.

Don't Sell Out!

By James D. Hammarlund Lantern Studios, Poway

Judas Iscariot, the Scriptures tell us in Matt. 26:14-15, betrayed Jesus our Lord and Savior for "thirty pieces of silver." That happened over 2000 years ago. The question that needs to be asked: Is this happening today? If so, who is currently betraying the Lord's work over to those who would hinder, distort and "preach another gospel"? How tragic it is to see Christian churches, Christian business men and women, organizations, and especially ministries that patronize businesses and establishments that overwhelmingly continued...
