Chris
Higgingbottom : CD Review, "Higher Place"
When
reviewing music, one can run across so many different genres and
interpretations of the gospel message on a CD. This month I would
like to introduce an artist that brings the uncompromising words
and sound of the spirit of God through his music.
Christian
singer/musician Chris Higginbottom, who has called San Diego his
home for most of his life, is proud to introduce his first release,
³Higher Place.²
Originally
from Orange County, this multi-talented musician has been involved
with music since he was three years old. With an extensive background
in music, he has been involved in various aspects of church music
since early childhood and it has been a part of his musical journey
throughout his life. A songwriter and musician, Chris is passionate
about using his musical gifts for the glory of God and to spread
the message of Jesus Christ.
Many
say that they wish they had music that they can use in their ³prayer
closet.² Well, you donıt have to wait any longer. Most of the songs
on the album can be used in your prayer room. There is no doubt
that you will enter into Godıs presence as you worship along with
the album. It begins with the title track Higher Place² and it
lets you know from the start that this artist is all about the Spirit
of God in his music. I asked him what made his music unique and
his reply was, ³Itıs anointed. If God is not in the middle of what
I am doing, then itıs not worth doing.² I appreciated his heartfelt
words.
Trying
to blend the album with different sounds, the album moved along
to a funky track, ³Rest Assured,² that showed the true versatility
of this artist. He continued to minister about laying all of your
burdens on God while the style and delivery of the message changed.
As you praise the Lord with that song, it will lead you directly
to the artistıs favorite track on the album, ³I Want to Know You.²
Once you hear the track you can easily know why: the message is
a simple one with the words that repeatedly say ³The cry of my heart
is to worship you.² This is an anthem that every believer will agree
and testify to.
Chris begins to let the listeners know
that all creation will praise Him through the song, ³Resonate.²
As you listen, it will encourage you to celebrate His glory and
presence and it will bring you to recognize the awesome hand of
God when you hear the song ³Thatıs where you come in.² Through these
songs, you can hear the passionate cry of the artists desire to
draw people closer to Jesus Christ.
In
addition to his solo music work, Chris is also the tenor for The
AQUA Touring Group, a quartet with whom he has toured extensively,
and is currently part of the King of Kings passion play that opened
last month. Some of his memorable moments as an artist include spending
some time with Kurt Karr and being a semi-finalist in the Exalting
Him contest by Daywind Records.
³Higher Placeı is a collection of songs
that really reflects what God is doing in my life and what He is
trying to teach me at this point in my walk with Him; God is ultimately
trying to bring us to a place that He has planned for each of us,
a Higher Place.ı God is not just interested in being there for
us now, but tomorrow and the day after that. He is here for the
complete journey.²
Every song has a blessing to all who hear
the album. I truly enjoyed them all, however, my favorite song was
track 8, ³Breathe on Me.² This took me all the way to the throne
room and into the secret place. You can lock yourself into the presence
of God with this song. Lastly, the song ³Will You Be There² invites
every listener to answer the question to this title.
Whether ministering in various venues or
at his church, The Anchor, or at home with his wife Linda and children
Caden and Sheldon, Chris is walking the path that God has prepared
for him, with a true desire to serve the Lord who loved him first.
³Higher
Place² is sure to minister to your soul and bless you from beginning
