A SENTIMENTAL COLUMN
Having reached an age where sentimentality is permissible, I have chosen to devote this May column to my mother, the late Harriet Eliot Benton Wirt. Known as Hattie, she was born on a farm in Nunda Township, northern Illinois, on September 23, 1870, to Mr. and Mrs. Robert George Benton. Family losses caused my grandfather to travel ..

'OPRAHFICATION' VS. TRUTH
The weeks following the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington saw a noticeable increase in church attendance. Americans who hadn't been in churches for years suddenly felt the need to go to church. Millions of Americans watched televised memorial services from the National Cathedral in Washington and St. Patrick's in ...

PENTECOST AND PEACE
There are plenty of important lessons to be learned simply by following the calendar. In this column, we have traced various Jewish holidays that are not celebrated by most in the Christian world - Hanukkah, Passover, etc. This month we come to a holiday that is on both the Jewish and Christian calendar, the Feast of Pentecost. Although this ...

 Letters To The Editor
Prison Readership

By Adrian (last name withheld), Lancaster

Thank you very much to you and your staff for doing a featured article about my music ministry in the January edition of the Good News, Etc. The article was wonderful. Thank you again for your kind heart and servant spirit in blessings so many different ministries in the San Diego area. May God continue to bless your ministry in this coming year. Praise the Lord! My name is Adrian, and I'm an inmate at a California prison. I used to live in Oceanside and I enjoyed your paper. I was wondering if one could order it via mail. If so, what is the rate and are there any special rates for inmates? (Our funds are not very deep.) I also want to thank you for something you did for me about a year ago. You found me a great pen-pal through Brother's Keeper Ministry. Thank you so much. May the Lord continue to bless your paper. Editor's Note: Adrian wanted to run a personal ad last year, looking for a pen-pal. However, we refer that type request to Brother's Keeper in Escondido. Regarding his new request, we will give him a complimentary subscription to the newspaper. We've also checked with several local jail chaplains and are increasing the number of papers we leave at those facilities.

Don't Sell Out!

By James D. Hammarlund Lantern Studios, Poway

Judas Iscariot, the Scriptures tell us in Matt. 26:14-15, betrayed Jesus our Lord and Savior for "thirty pieces of silver." That happened over 2000 years ago. The question that needs to be asked: Is this happening today? If so, who is currently betraying the Lord's work over to those who would hinder, distort and "preach another gospel"? How tragic it is to see Christian churches, Christian business men and women, organizations, and especially ministries that patronize businesses and establishments that overwhelmingly continued...
