 Up Close and Personal

Introducing… Don Smith
Christian Coalition of San Diego County

POSITION: County Coordinator
CONTACT: 619-235-VOTE
LOCATION: San Diego County
WHAT DOES THE ORGANIZATION DO? The mission of Christian Coalition is to mobilize, and train Christians for effective political action at the grassroots level as citizens, activits and candidates.
AREA OF EXPERTISE OR SPECIALTY YOU ARE KNOWN FOR? Putting together the Christian Coalition Voter Guide.
YOUR PRIMARY DUTIES: To coordinate the efforts of the Christian Coalition chapters in the county, and prepare a Christian Coalition Voter Guide for each election.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH? I would like to see the vast majority of Christians in the county realize their biblical responsibility to be good citizens, and to be active in the effort to return our communities and nation to the biblical foundation that we received from our founding fathers. Specifically that would mean that Christians would be registered to vote, be informed on the issues and the candidates and vote for godly principles and candidates. Bible believing Christians could be by far the largest voting block and could easily determine the outcome of every election if we took seriously the mandate Jesus gave us to be the salt and light in our communities and in the culture.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING TO YOU? The willingness of Christians to turn our culture over to the enemy instead of doing what Jesus commanded us to do when He said that we are to be the light of the world and salt of the earth.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST IN YOUR JOB? Hearing Christians say, "I just can't vote without the Christian Coalition Voter Guide."
HOW CAN PEOPLE PRAY FOR YOU OR YOUR ORGANIZATION? That God will give us more leaders and activists to get the job done.
DO YOU HAVE A NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS? Yes. We particularly need volunteers before the election to help distribute Voter Guides. Anyone interested in helping should call Alice at 619-235-VOTE.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY: My wife, Ruth, and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in August of 2001. We have three daughters and six granddaughters.
WHAT IS YOUR HOME CHURCH AND YOUR INVOLVEMENT? We fellowship and worship in a small house church called Christ Chapel located in La Mesa.
IS THERE A BOOK THAT HAS MADE AN IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE? The Prayer of Jabez by Bruce Wilkinson.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SCRIPTURE? "The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His sovereignty rules over all." Psalm 103:19
IS THERE A NUGGET YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE? "When the righteous rule, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan." Proverbs 29:2. "The time has come that Christians must vote for honest men, and take consistent ground in politics...God cannot sustain this free and blessed country, which we love and pray for, unless the Church will take right ground...Christians must do their duty to the country as a part of their duty to God. It seems sometimes as if the foundations of the nation are becoming rotten, and Christians seem to act as if they think God does not see what they do in politics. But I tell you He does see it, and He will bless or curse this nation, according to the course Christians take," --Rev. Charles G. Finney (1792-1875).
