Satellite stations broadcast to Middle East
SAT-7,
a satellite television service in Arabic for the Christians of the Middle
East and North Africa, has interrupted regular broadcasting to air a message
of encouragement to the millions of Christians living in the region.
The
full-screen slate includes a comforting image of Christ and these words, translated
from Arabic, “To all those who have walked with us, and to those with
whom we have walked. To all those who watch us over the air, which is now
mixed with the sounds of war, or the silence of eerie expectation. To all
those who watch us through flowing tears..., remember, ‘Jesus, who also
suffered when he was tempted, is also able to help those who suffer...’
Hebrews 2:18. And ‘Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have
no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not
forget you!’ Isaiah 49:15. From the SAT-7 family. Our prayers are with
you every day until the war is over.”
Terry
Ascott, CEO of SAT-7, said the message was a show of solidarity for Christians
in Iraq. “During this time of war, we felt it was important to send
a message of encouragement to all Arabic-speaking Christians, especially those
living inside Iraq [estimated at 600,000]. Regardless of the politics involved,
it is important that these Christians know that the rest of the Christian
world has not forgotten them,” said Ascott.
“We
all pray that this conflict will be short, that innocent lives will be protected
and that God’s purposes will prevail,” said Ascott.
