LAHORE, Pakistan - The Presbyterian Church -USA (PCUSA)
reports that negotiations with Pakistan’s government over control of
Forman Christian College have resulted in the return of the college property
to the church after 30 years of government control. The church has been in
negotiations for the return of the property for nine years. In mid-March,
the Pakistani government agreed to return the property to the church, reflecting
a national movement by the government to return private school property to
religious and secular groups that had been seized three decades ago. Management
of the college will be led by a board elected by Christian communities in
Pakistan. PCUSA projected that repairs to campus buildings and restoration
of the grounds of the college will cost $5 million.
