Saturday Night Live comedian performing
Actress
and comedian Victoria Jackson of Saturday Night Live fame will be performing in
North County on Mother’s Day Weekend.
“It’s
the same act I do in clubs,” said the talented blonde who mixes in
acrobatics playing the ukulele into her performances. “There are just 1-2
jokes that might not be appropriate in a church, but I’ve always been a
‘clean’ comedian.”
Married
and the mother of two daughters, 9 and 18, she started the church venue about a
year ago.
“I
was a born-again Christian as a young girl, but only recently started sharing
my faith in public,” she said in a phone interview. “I was the only
Christian on the Saturday Night Live and shared my faith individually, but this
is different.”
Jackson
lives in Florida now, but visits Hollywood frequently. She said she sees a greater public
display of Christianity now, but that there still is discrimination.
“I
was just fired from a job on a sitcom and I really don’t know why. I
can’t say it was discrimination for sure, but I was given no reason other
than something about ‘chemistry with the other actors.’”
She
will be doing three events at Family Fellowship Church in Oceanside. On Friday,
May 7, she will perform at the “Comedy Coffee Café.” It
begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10.
The
next day the church is hosting a program for military wives. Then on Sunday,
May 9, she will share her testimony at the 9 and 10:45 a.m. church services.
The church is located at 420 N. El Camino Real, Oceanside. For more information
