The Martin Luther King Jr. Community choir gives back to the
community through scholarships. They are a gospel music choir with
an emphasis on giving scholarships to high school students who want
to pursue a higher education in the arts. Ken Anderson directs the
choir of about 100 members. They have been singing and performing
together for four years, with the core group together for 14 years.
Singing gospel music allows the choir to bring God's Word to the
people through song. Dorothy Foster, a soprano in the choir, says
the group intends to "open our hearts to receive the Words the Lord
speaks to us on a regular basis. We're too busy looking through
the bifocals we have on and we're not seeing the handwriting on
the wall." After the core group decided to stick together, they
established a board of directors and their name. They decided that
