POP SINGER'S VOICE LEAVES LASTING MARK
By RENEE JOHNSON

Solo artist Carol Castillo pops into the spotlight, literally. A bold and confident woman of God, Carol sings her heart out. Her unique sound of blending pop with her edgy voice leaves a lasting impression. Her debut CD entitled “Carol Castillo” packs 10 songs to enlighten the spirit and strengthen the soul.

A couple of songs that grab attention on the album include “Only From You,” “Worry Train,” “I Want to Know You,” “See Your Glory,” “A New Song” and “Don’t Run Away,” which starts off as a dance melody, but as soon as Carol starts singing, her unique voice slowly infuses your mind to pay attention. “When you’re broken and alone, where’s the place that you run to? Do you run into the corner? Let me tell you I’ve been there, too. Don’t run away, come into my arms, of One who was born, who died, and who rose again...There is a One who wants to hold you, wrap His arms around you, there is a God who wants to show you, how much He loves you...When you’re mind is overcome, by the pressures of the world, don’t run away come into the arms of love, la la la!”

Also gifted as a speaker, Castillo has performed as a solo artist in churches, weddings, parties, full theatrical productions, concerts, and retreats since 1992. Her care and concern for others comes across strongly in her album. Another undeniable part to Carol Castillo is her funny, vibrant spirit. She says she wants to be remembered “for how much joy I had and that I was at peace with myself and that I was a funny person” - and also for being a good listener.

The main theme of her music is to show that there is a hope to keep going. There are three things Carol wants to see accomplished in her ministry — whether she’s singing or speaking. First is to “encourage people to live in the abundance that God has for them, Isaiah 48:18: ‘Oh, that you had listened to my commands! Then you would have had peace flowing like a gentle river and righteousness rolling like waves.’”

Also, she wants “people to know the hope of their calling, Ephesians 1:18: ‘I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the wonderful future he has promised to those he called. I want you to realize what a rich and glorious inheritance he has given to his people.’” Lastly, “to encourage them to step out and strengthen people with their giftings for the sake of the body of Christ, Rom. 1:11: ‘For I long to visit you so I can share a spiritual blessing with you that will help you grow strong in the Lord.’”

Carol Castillo doesn’t just sing and speak for God. She is a light to the community and a minister of the power of Jesus Christ. She calls Foothills Christian Fellowship in El Cajon her home church. Her favorite Bible verse is Galatians 6:9 “Let us not grow weary in doing good for in due season we shall reap if we do not faint.”
