Trevor Davis:
'Nothing
Ringing True'
San
Diego born and raised singer/songwriter Trevor Davis has been making
his mark all over the map with his soulful voice and unique writing
styles. His early discovery in music began just about five years
ago. This clever artist and musician told of his passion to share
the heart of God with his music was what began his quest to create
a roadmap to Christ though his songs.
Trevor
in early childhood was raised in the church; an all-gospel church
and his desire to serve God continued on into his teens. Coming
from a single-parent home, he encountered all the struggles that
come with that life and the artist would share that they would have
to believe for God to provide and he was able to see the miraculous
hand of God do so on many occasions. ³I learned how to trust God.
My faith grew strong through those times, and I got to see the hand
of God move in my family,² Trevor shared with conviction. He enjoys
traveling and ministry. His home church is Mid-City Christian Fellowship
under the direction of Pastor Dan Weidendhoff. His music and ministry
have taken him to Korea, Poland, Japan and is ready to go wherever
God will send him.
³God has given me a purpose in so many
directions,² shared the artist and that shows in the way that this
album is produced. Each song from start to finish has a purpose
and design in why it was written. Starting with the album cover;
it has an elephant riding a tricycle and also included in the art
is Trevor riding a tricycle underwater, he is also pictured piloting
a cardboard box through the skies. If that doesnıt say unique, I
donıt know what does. The indie artist shared about his record label
Mirth, which is defined in the dictionary as ³jolly, accompanied
by laughter and amusement.² Now the album art begins to make more
sense.
As
you begin to listen to the music, in the first song ³Arrow Plane²
he opens the project with percussion and bass. Kind of catchy for
a first intro on an album, the way that it should be I think. Now
that you are getting interested in the music styles, Trevor comes
with the song ³Change.² As you listen to the lyrics you know that
it comes from life experience. ³People always letting me down because
they donıt love me like you do, I get burned² sings the artist
in this song. The artist wrote about his disappointments and wanted
his listeners to know that his music relates to what everyone goes
through.
His
band has been performing together as a group for over four years.
Trevor on lead vocals and strutting his stuff on the guitar; on
drums Darla Hawn and on bass Tyler ³Taco² Carroll. Together they
are a powerful combination of talent and energy. Truly a sound that
is unique and can cross over to areas where a secular band can go.
It is just that kind of a sound. ³I feel that I have a nitch sound;
unique because no one else sounds like me. The music can go to many
venues and places that a regular Christian band can not go.² I asked
Trevor what his favorite audience was and he said, ³I like to sing
to the younger audiences. I think that the children can hear the
song the way that I wrote it; with the heart of a child.²
The
artistıs passion for God and dependence on God has inspired him
to write songs with powerful truths such as the next song on the
album, ³Rely on You.² This song highlights the falsetto range of
the singer at the very beginning. It has hard hitting lyrics once
again such as, ³there is no need for division, for two are better
than one.² One thing that is for certain, this songwriter wants
his message to be understood. This song is inspiring to hear. The
heartfelt emotion cries out in the melody.
As
the album continues to progress, each song finds itself standing
in front of the mirror. Questions that one must ask of self; in
the song ³Mr. Mister,² the lyrics ask, ³How long shall I wait; are
you going to call me sometime soon; It seems my prayers just bounce
off the ceiling?² The clever duo of Trevor Davis and Tim Devlin
on this collaboration have left the answer for the listener —³I
know that through time you will swing back my way.²
This
is an album you will just have to get to hear for yourself. It takes
you on a journey of powerful heartfelt melodies to powerful rock
riffs. ³Across the Clouds² sums up the sound in the song. Well,
youıll have to hear it to know what I mean. There are ten songs
on this album and now I will leave you with the song ³Treasure.²
I think this is the one that got me thinking and thanking God. Cleverly,
Trevor has found a way to share the Word of God in this song with
the story of the rich young ruler who had everything, but still
knew he was missing something. ³What is the key to the kingdom?
Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.²
Bravo,
Trevor Davis keep bringing your music to the people. It may be totally
different and unique and it may cause traditional Christians to
turn the other way, but if it is reaching the unsaved and making
a difference in their lives, I say press on. Not only is this artist
winning every contest around, but he was recently named the best
Spirit West Coast 2008 indie band. Props to you and the band; keep
taking it by storm and never back down.
To
sum it up, the album is great and to hear them live is an experience.
Trevor has a way with the crowds. Ministry is his passion and that
is evident in his delivery. His desire is that
God would
place him in paths that are fruitful and he asks that every prayer
warrior agree with him in that. So hear for yourself and experience
Christian music in a very different but powerful way.
