Uniting Our Hearts In Prayer

POSITION: Directors
LOCATION: San Diego
CONTACT: 619-660-7607 or UOHIP@cox.net
WHAT DOES THE ORGANIZATION DO? Draws together intercessors and people of prayer from throughout San Diego County to pray for the county. The mission statement says it best: " Uniting Our Hearts In Prayer San Diego is a Christian interdenominational, multi-ethnic, organization uniting intercessors. Its purpose is to provide cohesive prayer coverage for the county, link intercessors through cultural expressions of prayer, utilize combined resources and giftings, encourage broader cooperation among intercessors, and facilitate rapid mobilization of the Army of God to strengthen the Body of Christ.
YOUR PRIMARY DUTIES: The Pastor's Prayer Shield and lead monthly meetings.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH? 1. Connect with more intercessors and people of prayer in the county. 2. Bless the pastors of San Diego County. 3. This fall we are focusing on praying for Youth and that God will raise up a new generation of Christian leaders. 4. Becoming more effective corporately praying targeted, focused prayers with measurable results.
WHERE DO YOU FEEL THE LORD IS LEADING THIS ORGANIZATION? Our God given assignment for this year is to carry out the countywide Pastor's Prayer Shield for senior pastors, ministry leaders, and chaplains. Currently, we have over 160 pastors being prayed for individually by an intercessor. The intercessors have been approved by their pastors through an application process. The intercessors have agreed to pray for one year daily scriptural prayers from Colossians 1 for their assigned pastor. The Prayer Shield began May 1, 2002 and will continue through May 1, 2003. A unique feature of the Prayer Shield is that the intercessor does not contact the pastor but simply focuses on praying scriptural prayers and blessings over the pastor.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING TO YOU? Lack of time.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST IN YOUR JOB? Spending time with God in worship and intercession with other people of prayer from various denominational streams and ethnic backgrounds. Seeing God work through the Church of San Diego.
HOW CAN PEOPLE PRAY FOR YOU OR YOUR ORGANIZATION? Pray that the intercessors will have endurance and stamina to faithfully complete their Pastor Prayer Shield assignment. Pray that we can effectively carry out the task that God has given us, as leaders, and that God can use us to make a difference in the lives (community, city, area, county) of those for whom we pray. Pray that more intercessors or people of prayer be mobilized to pray for our county.
DO YOU HAVE A NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS? Those that are involved are all volunteers. All who are interested in prayer and praying for our county are welcome to attend our monthly meeting at 7 p.m. the 4th Thursday of each month. We meet at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, 6845 University Ave. (Administration Bldg. F), San Diego, CA 92115.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY: We met on a blind date set up by Judy's brother, Dr. Jim Garlow, senior pastor of Skyline Wesleyan Church, January 1,1999. We were married in San Diego, March 27, 1999. Judy, is a home health registered nurse. Keat is a retired teacher which includes 22 years at a Christian College. JUDY: Three children, daughters 33, 31, and a son 25, all living in Kansas. Her oldest is married and has four children. KEAT: Two children: A married son, 46 with two children and two grandchildren ; a married daughter 44, with one child. All live in Kansas.
WHAT IS YOUR HOME CHURCH AND YOUR INVOLVEMENT? We are members of Skyline Church, where we serve as coordinators of intercessory prayer for Marriage Savers @ Skyline. Marriage Savers is a ministry to promote the enrichment of marriage, support and mentoring for couples that are experiencing conflicts in their marriage, mentoring couples in a "step-family" marriage, and mentoring for reconciliation with couples in a broken relationship. We have shared in the healing prayer and deliverance ministries of the church. Keat is also a part of the support staff of Skyline.
IS THERE A BOOK THAT HAS MADE AN IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE? JUDY: Healing America's Wounds by John Dawson. In the early 90s, God used this book to plant what I was later to learn was a call for reconciliation. KEAT: Hurryin' Big for Little Reasons by Dr. Ronald R. Meredith. Early in his ministry, the author was told by a wise old cowboy, "to hurry big for little reasons is the best way I know never to live at all."
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SCRIPTURE? JUDY: Proverbs 3:4-5. KEAT: Isaiah 43:18-19.
