Pastor
Richard Burkey,
Christ Lutheran Church, La Mesa:
The
reawakening of our involvement in missions began with giving
each member $10 one Sunday morning and the challenge to multiply
it for the next 3 months to fund church planters in India.
Thanks to an organization called Mission India, we rediscovered
God’s first love and highest priority for the church.
Another
missions impact is short-term mission trips. Thanks to Global
Mission Fellowship, one member went to Cuba to do evangelism
leading new converts into indigenous churches. He came back
so fired up he took seven with him to Ecuador this year. The
seven came back so fired up they are ready to share their
faith in Ecuador, San Diego and around the world and are recruiting
others to make another trip. All this has led to a passion
for our purpose of developing dynamic disciples for Christ
in La Mesa and around the world.

Rev.

New Covenant Tabernacle, National City::
This
is an easy question for us. Over 25 years ago, before our
church was even a thought, my wife had a vision for orphans.
Today, we have two Lily of the Valley Orphanages in Tijuana
and Chihuahua, Mexico, which are home to over 200 children.
Each child has been transformed since they have come to their
new homes. They have been filled with the love of Jesus and
the Holy Spirit. This year we are celebrating the 15th anniversary
of our Tijuana orphanage.
We
also have three thriving in churches in areas of extreme poverty
in Tijuana. Our orphans join with our pastors and ministry
team each week to minister to hundreds about God’s glory,
also providing food and clothing.
Our
heart is Jesus’ heart. We believe for more orphanages,
in Africa and also the Philippines or wherever the Lord leads.
Jesus is the Bread of Life. Our mission is His mission.
