KATHY BURG BAND MAKES IT "EASY"
By RENEE JOHNSON

If you are looking for a great acoustic rock/pop CD, look no further than the Kathi Burg Band. Kathi Burg writes the lyrics and sings vocals. Tim Burg masters the bass, while Johnny Suzano plays the guitar.

Their newest CD is entitled “The Making of Easy.” Their other CDs are “Acoustic Album” (2001) and “All Those Things Thought on and Hoped For” (1999).

Their root sound combines acoustic guitar, deep bass, piano and Kathi’s voice — part soul, part folk, and the other part sweet! They hope you will take a journey with them to transform your fear into hope and to show you “The Making of Easy” with God, all things are possible!

The Kathi Burg Band has performed at Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, Coors Amphitheater, Del Mar Fair, coffeeshops, and churches. They call North Coast Calvary and Canyon Hills their home churches. They have been on the hits chart on MP3.com.

What inspires them beyond piecing together their in-depth musical style is their message. In every song there is a message of hope. A song with a great message on their newest album “The Making of Easy” is “Undone.” It starts off with Irish Uilleann Pipes and an Irish Whistle. “...I just find myself here in this cesspool of fear feeling less dignified, feeling less dignified. And I’m feeling a little undone (though I walk through the valley) and a little like looking to Jesus (of the shadow of death) to see what the cross won (I will fear no evil) to understand what it is that frees us. I can understand a little bit, the fear of possibly losing it, and I’m wondering if those devils we see following people, relentlessly aren’t so far from you and me and need to be taken more seriously.”

As you let the music minister to you, Tim, Kathi and Johnny have some advice for you. Tim wants you to know “the will of God won’t take you where His grace can’t sustain you.” Kathi says, “Jesus loves me in spite of my doubts.” Johnny says, “God’s still out there, trust your gut, (that means) God is pulling and telling you there’s another direction you can go.”

Go to God. Let Him make you “Free” (another great song on the album). “Oh, but I still get weary and sometimes I feel lost and I still cave into fear. I still see progress as out of my reach even though He’s standing right here...But I know time and distance won’t separate us, all You do is hold my hand and I’m free...”

Other great songs are “Every Broken Part,” “Goodbye,” “Making of Easy,” “Good Enough For a Song,” “Less Than,” “So Happy So Sad,” “Like You,” “One Thing” and “Choice.”

On Oct. 4 at the YMCA in La Jolla (Firehouse) The Kathi Burg Band is having their CD release party from 7 to 10 p.m. They are also performing on Oct. 24 at Borders in Mission Valley at 8 p.m.
