Pastor
Michael Nee,
Holy Cross Church, Carlsbad:
I
learned a simple but profound Halloween witness from one of
our neighbors in seminary. The day before Halloween, she and
her daughter got their pumpkin and carved a simple cross on
its side instead of a jack o’lantern face. It sat on
the top of the stairs to their front porch. The warm glow
of the candle shining through the cross greeted every little
visitor that dark and windy Halloween night. It looked beautiful.
I thought, “How much better than having no pumpkin out
there. This is Christ-like.” Christ came into the world
and into each of our lives not to eradicate us, but to transform
us, to be the light in our darkness. Our neighbor had the
inspiration to enter Halloween — not simply to turn
her back on it — and to transform it to a witness for
Christ. That’s what I call evangelism (see Acts17:16-34).

Pastor
Rocky Moore, Sr.
Living Hope Family Church, San Diego::
Living
Hope Family Church shares its faith during Halloween with
a Fall Festival. It’s designed to take the idea of horror
out of a day that glorifies witches, demons and satanic worship.
The fall festival has games for all ages and then there is
a time of ministry through skits and plays.
I
believe that the church should be creative and use every opportunity
to witness the Gospel. Today’s popular cultural participates
in sorcery, witchcraft and voodoo, all under the disguise
of Halloween. For this reason, Christians must be strong witnesses
for the Lord to pull down these strongholds of tradition.
