MINISTRIES
'SIGNING' IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF MINISTRY TO DEAF
When Maryann Hathaway became a Christian almost five years ago, she was immediately rejected by her regular group of friends. Trying to dissuade her from her newly found faith, they called her names and predicted that she would soon renounce Christ. Unfortunately, it was not easy for Maryann to make new friends who could ...

 Up Close and Personal

Introducing… Andrea Bearden-Kuhns
Bread of Life Rescue Mission

POSITION:President/Co-Founder
CONTACT: 760-736-2511, www.Breadofliferescuemission.org.
LOCATION: North County
WHAT DOES THE ORGANIZATION DO? Operates a safe house for women and children in crisis. Gearing up for our expansion with our chapel, meals and cold weather shelter. We are a resource for other agencies.
AREA OF EXPERTISE OR SPECIALTY YOU ARE KNOWN FOR? Networking and communicating in both the Christian and secular community to assist those in need.
YOUR PRIMARY DUTIES: Overseeing the safe house, responding to agencies, clients and correspondence. Media releases and newsletter creation. Chairing the directors.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH? God's vision is for a full service rescue mission in Oceanside. I would like to see this come to fruition along with a vocational training center and, since we are the Bread of Life Rescue Mission, a bagel shop. It is my prayer that Christians would realize their call to serve the poor in a capacity of love and grace. That all who come through our doors would receive salvation.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING TO YOU? I have learned that frustration is a waste of time and energy and changes nothing. Waiting on the Lord and His timing is a productive avenue, one which I diligently pursue.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST IN YOUR JOB? Working alongside my God-given husband and co-founder of the ministry, Grant Kuhns.
HOW CAN PEOPLE PRAY FOR YOU OR YOUR ORGANIZATION? Pray for favor with the city and for the Lord to open the windows of heaven and pour out His blessing on the ministry.
DO YOU HAVE A NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS? Yes, as we expand our operation in Oceanside those who have a heart for the homeless will be welcome.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY: I have two adult children and three grandsons. Grant and I have been married nearly eight years and think of our church as extended family.
WHAT IS YOUR HOME CHURCH AND YOUR INVOLVEMENT? We have been at North Coast Calvary Chapel for nearly eight years and have been blessed to have seen this ministry birthed there over 3 years ago.
IS THERE A BOOK THAT HAS MADE AN IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE? The Word! The book of Nehemiah is a favorite.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SCRIPTURE? "Fear Not" Found in many passages of the Bible.
IS THERE A NUGGET YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE? Throughout history there have been volumes written about heroic individuals. Today I see women courageously facing poverty, abuse and dispair with little more than a few suitcases and a toddler in tow. Some have been shaken to the depths of their soul, nevertheless they persevere. Those who overcome their dire circumstances are those who put their trust in God. This is true courage and I am humbled by their daily victories.
