 Up Close and Personal

Introducing… Shirley Bush
Heart to Heart International

POSITION:Reginal Director - Western United States
CONTACT: 619-521-3821
LOCATION:
San Diego
LENGTH OF SERVICE: Five and one-half years
WHAT DOES THE ORGANIZATION DO? Heart to Heart International is a global humanitarian organization that inspires, empowers and mobilizes the individual to serve the needs of the poor in their community and around the world. Heart to Heart accomplishes this mission through partnerships that promote health, alleviate hunger, deliver resources, education and hope and provide opportunities for meaningful service.
In a nutshell, we deliver medicine and supplies to people in need
around the world, and do it most effectively and efficiently.
AREA OF EXPERTISE OR SPECIALTY YOU ARE KNOWN FOR? I believe one of my areas of expertise (through God‚s Grace) is being effective in motivating people to get involved with helping others. I feel God has gifted me in being an encourager.
YOUR PRIMARY DUTIES: My primary duty, at this time, is to develop resources needed to continue and grow the work of Heart to Heart. I continually develop relationships and encourage others to donate financially; donate their skills and talents; donate in-kind product, or volunteer their time to serve the poor and needy.
WHERE DO YOU FEEL THE LORD IS LEADING THE ORGANIZATION: From an operational standpoint, I feel certain the Lord is interested in H2H being the most effective, mature, godly, efficient steward of the resources He sends our direction. That means we continue to provide timely relief, educated assessments and responsible delivery of product and resources to the people around the world that need them the most regardless of race, religion or political lines.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING TO YOU? I believe my frustration is in not feeling like I have enough time to accomplish all that is on my plate. I think I can improve in prioritizing my time to accomplish more in a smaller period of time!
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST IN YOUR JOB? Interaction with people. Telling them the story of Heart to Heart International and helping them to realize we can make a difference...or helping others recognize the contribution they have to make DOES count in a big way. (We work on 2% overhead so $10 donations can go far!)
HOW CAN PEOPLE PRAY FOR YOU OR YOUR ORGANIZATION? Please pray for me that I will wait on the Lord, seek His guidance in ALL things and praise Him in the midst of dry spells! Pray for H2H that we will be ever-sensitive to the needs of others, that we will continually ask for help and be courageous in the tasks before us as we endeavor to deliver needed supplies and medicines to people around the world.
Pray for H2H to receive the resources we need to reach out to millions of people everywhere that have no food, no medicine, no comfort, no hope.
DO YOU HAVE A NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS? Yes, we use volunteers everyday. In fact, on April 12 in San Diego, we will be holding our CARElift 2003- One Heart, Many Hands project where volunteers will go around the community providing help and delivering supplies! Also, I need volunteers to help in the office!
TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY: I am married to Charlie Bush for 34 years, have 2 sons, Shawn and Mike, a daughter-in-love (Missy) and 2 grandchildren (Jake and Hailee Grace). We all live in East County and love to play at the river together.
IS THERE A BOOK THAT HAS MADE AN IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE? Other than the Bible, favorite book ia Streams in the Desert by Mrs. L. B. Coleman.
IS THERE A NUGGET YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE? I'd like others to know that God is love, that in spite of ME, He loved me enough to die for me and to carry me in His arms when I am tired or hungry or hurting and He loves them just as much!
WHAT IS YOUR HOME CHURCH? Shadow Mountain Community Church.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SCRIPTURE? "I can do all things through Christ who strenghtens me." Phillippians 4:13
