 Up Close and Personal

Introducing... Daughters of Light (DOL)
Dani Womak/Jonnie Martin

POSITION: Directors

PHONE: 619-200-3688, 619-200-4184

LENGTH OF SERVICE:  Since its start in December 2005

YOUR PRIMARY DUTIES: Two categories, ministering to women and conducting the daily affairs of the ministry.  We lead teams in street ministry on El Cajon Boulevard, maintain a clothing closet for women, conduct weekly Bible Studies and monthly life skills roundtable discussions, oversee a mentorship/discipleship program.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH? Daughters of Light wants to see individual women change their lives from living in the bondage of addiction, homelessness, abuse, and/or prostitution, to living in the freedom a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We want to continue to show women that the Creator of the Universe sees their beauty and loves them.

WHAT ARE YOU BEST KNOWN FOR? We are well known for our love for the women. As co-directors we have very different backgrounds and pool our experiences and knowledge to help each women find her way.  We sincerely care about the women.

WHERE DO YOU FEEL THE LORD IS LEADING THE ORGANIZATION? We feel lead to grow in the services we can offer the women. As an avenue for this, we desire increased relationship with other community organizations whose services may benefit the women we work with.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING TO YOU? In a ministry like this, there are several frustrations you encounter every day. The limited resources for the need is heartbreaking.

WHAT DO YOU  ENJOY MOST IN YOUR POSITION? Daughters of Light reaches out to a population of women many churches and organizations do not attempt to reach. To see women who lived life addicted to drugs and abused by men transform and begin to walk unashamed because they have allowed Jesus to wash them clean.

IN WHAT CAPACITY CAN VOLUNTEERS SERVE? 1. Contact Jonnie or Dani and sign up for our e-mail needs list. 2. Help organize and maintain our clothing closet. 3. Gift bag donations. When we do street ministry we always give the women hand-decorated gift bags with personal items inside. These items range from lotions and make-up to jewelry. Basically little items that women enjoy. 4. Offer special services.  If you have a special talent or training that would be a blessing to our women, please contact us.  The women often are in need of professionals from hairdressers to dentists.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY:  We are blessed to be married to men who are not only wonderful husbands but also amazing dads.  Our husbands are incredibly supportive of us as ministers and Daughters of Light.

WHERE IS YOUR HOME CHURCH? We both attend Crosspointe Life Church in La Mesa. Daughters of Light was birthed out of the heart of our pastor.

IS THERE A ÒNUGGETÓ YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE? We did not start out to run a ministry.  We just wanted to be obedient to Jesus.  We have stood amazed at what God can do with two ÒregularÓ women who said ÒYesÓ to Him.  We are living proof that if God can use us, He can use anyone.  If the Lord is speaking to you about doing something for His Kingdom, step out and do it.

A FAVORITE SCRIPTURE?   When God called us to the streets of San Diego, He said to tell the women He calls them ÒBeautiful.Ó Psalm 45:11 says, ÒThe King is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord.Ó We love this verse. From this tender message, Women begin to honor God and allow Him to be their Lord.  We praise God that He calls us all beautiful. We so desire to honor Him.
